- Employers of transportation employees play a vital role in ensuring the safety of their employees and the traveling public.
- Consortium/Third-Party Administrators (C/TPAs) manage all, or part, of an employer's DOT drug and alcohol testing program, sometimes including maintaining required testing records.
- Designated employer representative (DER) is an employee authorized by the employer to take immediate action(s) to remove employees from safety-sensitive duties, or cause employees to be removed from these covered duties, and to make required decisions in the testing and evaluation processes.
- Drug testing laboratories receive urine specimens and test them to determine the presence of drugs. Laboratories must be certified by HHS under the National Laboratory Certification Program (NLCP).
